Hot stones massage is a specialist massage. The therapist uses smooth, heated stones, by either placing them on the body while they massage other parts of the body or as an extension of their own hands. The heat can be used to help warm up tight muscles so the therapist can work more deeply or as a relaxing and soothing massage which eases away stress and tension.

Before you arrive, the massage therapist sanitizes the stones and heats them to between 120 to 150 degree Fahrenheit (48 to 65 degress Celsius). The therapist warms up the body with traditional Swedish massage, then massages you while holding a heated stone. As the stone cools, the therapist will replace it with another. The stones may vary in shape and size with big ones used on the big muscles and smaller ones on smaller muscles.

The heated stones may be left in specific points along your spine, in the palms of your hand, on your belly, or even between your toes to improve the flow of energy in your body. The placing of hot stones on points that are thought to be energy centers of the body which helps to rebalance the body and mind.

An authentic hot stone massage is not simply the "gliding" of heated stones over the surface of the skin, but rather the stones are used as tools to deliver effective tissue and muscle massage. The hot stones relax the muscles, increase the blood flow which accelerates the healing process and calms the nervous system. The beauty of the hot stones massage technique is that the client can request light, medium or deep pressure.

Hot stones massage can be customized in an instant at the request of the client. The hardness of the stones makes for a deep tissue massage and is easy on the joints of the therapist’s hands. If you find the stones are too warm or the pressure too intense please don't hesitate to tell the therapist.
